The Kashkou was born out of a need, created with my lovely Gaëlle. Have you noticed that baby and child neck warmers don't stay in place well when they're playing? There's often a small opening at the top that lets air in. With this new pattern, that problem is solved, since the design has two panels that extend down the chest and back.

It was inspired by the Flokon toque. The two patterns coordinate perfectly since they use the same stitch and construction. For this reason, I decided to create a "new" pattern for both the toque and the neck warmer. Of course, they are also available separately.
The pattern is made with Lion Brand Heartland, but you can also use Red Heart Soft. Only one ball is needed for any of the 7 sizes, ranging from 1-3 months to large adult.
The Kashkou is an intermediate-level project, as it's primarily worked in the back loop. This is what gives it its beautiful texture. The construction involves making the ribbed section of the neck warmer, then the front panel, and finally the back panel. It's crocheted with one strand of yarn, but it's folded over itself to create a double layer and make it warm enough for playing outside.
I hope this pattern will be useful to you this winter! Happy crocheting.
